Throughout history, health care women have gone to great lengths to care for their patients and their communities. And today with the contribution of women at the forefront in addressing the health emergency from Covid-19.

They are also in the present thanks to the development of new technologies such as the industry sector FemTech. Femtech refers to software, diagnostics, products and other services that use new technologies for women's health. It is a growing sector and the UAE is at the forefront of the FermTech industry

The discussion, therefore, will focus on the following questions:

  • How can the long tradition of pioneering healthcare professionals in the Arab and Islamic world be given the place it deserves in the storytelling?
  • How have women in the Arab world driven innovation in healthcare throughout history?
  • How does technology allow women in the region once again to be pioneers in the new field of FemTech?

The health emergency from Covid-19 has highlighted the gender inequalities in the health professions and the challenges of health workers working on the front line in the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. These range from increased work pressure due to staff shortages, under-representation in decision-making and a wide variety of gender biases.

The panel "Women on the front Line or in the Line Fire"(Monday 31 January - 3.00 pm) will address this topic by answering the following questions:

  • What challenges highlighted by the health crisis are the most pressing for women and how can we address them?
  • In addition to the challenges, health workers face gender bias. How to solve this problem?
