The European Union recognizes vaccination certificates issued by Cape Verde, Lebanon and United Arab Emirates.
“The three countries will be linked to the EU system and their certificates will be accepted under the same conditions as the EU COVID digital certificate ”Explains a press release from the Commission, adding that the decisions will become effective on the same day they were adopted.
The Commission also explains that the authorities of Cape Verde, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates have also agreed to allow entry to EU citizens holding the EU COVID digital certificate.
Commenting on the decisions, the EU Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, reiterated that now over 55 countries and territories on the five continents have joined the system.
"The EU COVID digital certificate is unique and that is why 55 countries and territories on five continents have joined the system so far with over 750 million certificates issued. While we have difficulty with COVID-19 variants, we need the certificate; it has served in the past and will continue to serve in the future to help people travel safely “Said the Commissioner.
The EU green certificate, in force since summer 2021, contributes to making it possible to travel to all countries of the European Community. The green pass allows you to demonstrate, with a QR code, that you are fully vaccinated or cured from Covid-19. It can also be released with a recent negative anti covid test.
United Arab Emirates
The Commission decision establishes equivalence, in order to facilitate the right to free movement in the Union, of COVID-19 certificates issued by the United Arab Emirates with certificates issued pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2021/953 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
People residing in the UAE can use the app Al Hosn to prove their vaccination status when they enter EU member states without restrictions.
The UAE's Al Hosn app has been linked with the European Union's COVID digital certification system and this will make it easier to travel between the UAE and the EU. Vaccination certificates issued by the UAE are now equivalent to those issued on the EU COVID Digital Certificate. The update took place on Saturday 11 December.
Al Hosn is the official UAE app for contact tracking and health status related to COVID-19. You can download it for free from: App Store, Google Play, Huawei App Gallery and Galaxy Store.
The UAE is one of the first countries in the MENA region to be linked to the EU's COVID digital certification system.
From Sunday 5 December the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has reduced the validity of the green pass on the Al Hosn app. Now, a negative PCR test on the app will only get green status for 14 days and no longer 30 days as it was in the past. The update is in line with the UAE's adoption of proactive measures following global concern over the spread of Omicron variant.
Among other measures to limit the spread of the Sars-CoV-2 virus, on the occasion of the start of Expo 2020 Dubai, the first universal exhibition in Arab territory running until March 31, 2022, Dubai has updated Covid-19 protocols for visitors.
